The setting for these stories, is mostly around the 1940s, and is of the author a young boy at the time growing up in a farmyard in The Liberties, an area in the centre of Dublin. Stocked with horses, pigs, hens, a cow, a goat and other animals, the yard had the day-to-day routine, drama, tragedy, fun and adventure of a rural farmyard. Seen through the eyes of a boy, but at times with the author’s reflective comments as an adult, this book is a series of true stories, told simply and lovingly about the caring, gutsy, passionate people who touched the author’s life as he was growing up.
